Turosi
Vertically integrated poultry — from farm to plate
Turosi is one of Australia's largest poultry producers, born from the story of Sam Cuteri who arrived from Italy in 1967 and built a chicken empire from a rented shed. Today Turosi manages every step from breeder farms to the table, supplying premium chicken to homes across Australia.
From a Suitcase to Australia's Table
In 1967, 19-year-old Sam Cuteri left his home in Italy with everything he owned packed into a single suitcase, bound for Australia. Not long after arriving in Melbourne, he found work with a small chicken processor — and a passion took root.
By 1976 Sam was processing 300 chickens a week by hand from a rented shed in South Morang. His reputation for quality and personalised service grew fast. In 1992 he commissioned a purpose-built processing plant and introduced the European air-chilling method to Australia — a technique Turosi still uses today, producing chicken that looks, cooks, and tastes better, with no added chemicals.
Through decades of growth and a merger with OSI International Foods, Turosi is now one of Australia's largest vertically integrated poultry producers — managing every step from breeder farms and hatcheries to processing and value-added products. With over 1,200 team members and more than 100 farming families across Victoria, Turosi remains true to Sam's founding belief: that small opportunities are the beginning of great enterprises.
What we source
The majority of Pryde Butchery's chicken comes from Turosi — including whole birds, breast fillets, thigh fillets, drumsticks, and wings. Turosi chickens are processed at their Thomastown and Geelong facilities under strict Primesafe Victoria auditing, with options spanning free range, RSPCA Approved, and conventional barn-grown.
