Cuisine Australian
Servings 4 people

Equipment

  • 1 Slow Cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 kg Pulled Pork from Pryde Butchery
  • 1 can Coke-cola or pepsi
  • 1 tsp Smoked Paprika optional as the pork is already seasoned but does give a deeper smokey flavor

Instructions

  • Put all the above into a slow cooker, and for a low setting, go for 6+ hours.  For a high setting, 4+ hours will do the trick then set to low.  Don’t worry about the time too much so long as we put our on for 12hrs on slow, and it’s been excellent.
1 kg Pulled Pork, 1 tsp Smoked Paprika, 1 can Coke-cola
  • Can also be done in an oven or BBQ, just keep the heat low.
  • When finished remove and pull apart with a fork. It will be that tender.

Notes

The no Coke-cola option.
We have had questions asked about if this can be done without the can of coke and it certainly can be.  Just use about 330 ml of chicken stock.  With budgets in mind and the flavour profiles, you don’t need to use real stock, and a cube stock dissolved in water will work fine.  We would recommend a teaspoon of the sweetener of your choice, brown sugar, agave or honey being ideal as they will provide a deeper richness to the sweet component.
Coke No Sugar Option / No sugar option.
We have not tested this recipe with Coke No Sugar so unable to advise how this will work.  If anyone has tried this and it worked well , please let us know so we can update these notes.  Currently, our suggestion would if you want to avoid the sugar from Coke-cola, then go with the Chicken Stock and use Stevia as the sweetener as it has a good record of cooking true to flavour.
Advanced No Sugar Option.
To completely avoid adding sugar but also getting that extra caramelised flavour we recommend you caramelise two finely chopped onions for about 30 mins which will give the sweetness and flavour and no added sugar.
